Everyone Loves the Sound of Music

In today’s busy world, there is little time to pull yourself away from the screen of your phone to enjoy some of the better things this city has to offer. The hubbub of life can leave little time to enjoy some music at a few of the local venues. Once you start going to a few of the venues that the Grand Valley has to offer it is hard to stop, especially with the summer line-ups on the way.

In this episode of Drawn Together we dive into a few of the venues this town has to offer starting with Los Colonies Amphitheater. This venue is nestled right up to the Colorado River and the bike path that runs along it. For a free show without having to pay to get in you can explore the path and banks along the river for a behind-the-stage sound. This venue offers a few food trucks and a grassy knoll for concertgoers to enjoy. The stage is quite large and offers a lot of room for artists to perform, which makes for one of the best outdoor experiences in the Grand Valley.

The next venue is the Mesa Theater downtown on Main Street which was built at the turn of the century. It is one of my favorite venues Grand Junction has to offer and offers a very interment viewing experience of any performance it offers. In the summertime you can see a wide variety of music and the venue Box Office is open during normal bar hours Tuesday – Saturday 6 PM – Midnight.

The Avalon was constructed by Walter Walker, who the airport was also named after in 1923. In the mid-nineties, the City of Grand Junction took over the building and gave it a much-needed renovation in 2014. It sits on the corner of Main Street and 7th and is one of the more prominent buildings on Main Street. “My husband and I love to go to the dinner and Movie on Thursday nights whenever we see something we like. Henry, my husband loves older classics, and I like the newer funnier romantic comedies.” said longtime resident Martha Smith. She grew up in the Grand Valley and still looks forward to seeing a show at the Avalon now and again.

The Avalon Theatre has been standing on the corner of Main Street in Grand Junction, CO, for
over 100 years. Hosting the most prestigious concerts, ballets, and symphonies in the valley
over these years.

Warehouse 25Sixty-five Kitchen and Bar offers people really good food, a full bar with handcrafted drinks, and a lot of live music, and might be one of the most popular places in town for date night. This establishment was transformed by two local sisters who converted the old warehouse into what it is today. The kitchen and bar make this venue unique because it offers a sublime dining expense with a live show in the background. It’s one of the hottest kitchens in town and people are able to host parties there to have a truly unforgettable experience. The lineup for the summer looks to be a lot of country and one big biker rally so if that’s your thang get on down there.

April 8, 2025; Grand Junction- Warehouse 25 Sixty Five is a popular bar/restaurant as well as a live music venue. The over 16,000+ sq ft venue hosts upwards of at least three live events a week, ranging from concerts to dance parties and line dancing lessons. The bar was created by sisters Terri Boggs and Noel Boggs. Poppy Williams.

All in all, the Grand Junction music scene will see a lot of action this summer. Hopefully, there is something for everyone at one of these many venues to enjoy, and if they are not speaking up say something so someone can add it to the list. “Sometimes if you pray hard enough for a headliner there’s a chance it might actually happen,” said Sam Path, part-time music coordinator. “If you ask me the festivals, fairs, and carnivals are where the best impromptu music happens. When you have a ton of vendors a small stage and mid-range speakers the best music happens. It’s a lot more raw, more creative, and sometimes a lot more fun than a mainline stage.”
