Despite Grand Junction’s size and location, it still has a prominent Jewish population, despite what popular belief may be.

Grand Junction has a synagogue located on N 12th Street, right by Grand Junction High School. It is currently the only synagogue in the Grand Junction area.

“It emphasizes Jewish values of love, peace, community and caring for all,” Barry Sobel said.

According to the Wilkinson Public Library, it was started informally in 1950 by three families from Tulsa. The building has been remodeled since it opened for security reasons and to keep it updated.

The synagogue is growing, and it currently hosts about 70 family units.

They even hosted a Jewish Film Festival this year, and they are hoping that it will become an annual event.

“Can you believe a Jewish Film Festival in Grand Junction?” Joseph Breman said.

CMU even hosts an annual holocaust Remembrance Week since 2004.
