The aviation industry is one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing industries in the world. With the increasing demand for air travel, there is a need for skilled and trained professionals to manage airports even more efficiently. To cater to this need, the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority Board announced Tuesday that it has secured extra funds from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to support the airport’s intern program.

Airport staff applied for a State Aviation Grant, which will provide 50% of the gross wage for two full-time intern positions, the other 50%, plus employment taxes, will be funded by the Airport Authority. “The grant is a testament to the hard work of our staff, who have demonstrated their commitment to developing young talent and providing them with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the aviation industry,” said airport official Travis Boyd. The internship program will run for a period of one year and will provide two individuals with the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in airport operations and administration. “We are excited to offer this program to talented and motivated young individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in aviation,” said Boyd.

The State has expressed excitement about the valuable Part 139 experience this program offers to the candidates. To ensure a structured experience, a detailed internship program and work schedule have been developed to guide the interns through their experience at GJT Regional Airport. Staff plans to make a successful job offer to applicants in late April and have the individuals start their program in late May. “We look forward to welcoming the applicants to our team and seeing them flourish in their roles,” said airport authority representative Cameron Reece.

The intern program will not only benefit the individuals who participate in it, but it will also provide valuable support to the airport’s operation and administration teams. The interns will be involved in a range of activities, such as assisting with airfield inspections, conducting wildlife hazard management, and assisting with airport emergency management. The Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority expressed its gratitude to the CDOT for providing the additional funding to support this program.

“We are grateful for the State’s support of this program and look forward to continuing our partnership to support the growth and development of the aviation industry in Colorado,” said Reece.
This internship program is an excellent career opportunity for young individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the aviation industry. It provides them with the chance to gain practical experience and develop their skills in airport operations and management. It is a testament to the commitment of the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority to developing young talent and supporting the growth of the aviation industry in Colorado.
