This list highlights some of the ways you can make a difference in the community while gaining valuable experience and skills.
Habitat For Humanity

Habitat For Humanity of Mesa County is always seeking volunteers in Grand Junction to assist with their mission of building affordable housing for families I need. “Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization,” said Jenna Schweitzer, a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County. “We would not be able to do what we do without their support and dedication.” Volunteers can participate in various aspects of the construction process, from framing to painting, and no prior experience is necessary. With a commitment of just a few hours a week, volunteers can make a tangible impact on the community while learning valuable skills and connecting with others who share a passion for giving back.
Grand Valley Peace & Justice
Grand Valley Peace & Justice (GVPJ) is a grassroots organization that has been serving the Grand Junction community since 2001. “Our organization relies on volunteers to help us achieve our mission of building a more just and peaceful world,” said Sherry Cole, program coordinator at GVPJ. Volunteers help with a range of activities from organizing events to writing articles for our newsletter.” Cole added. The groups mission is to promote peace and Justice through education, advocacy, and action. They work to raise awareness about social and environments issues, as well as to provide resources to those who are affected by injustice. Through their volunteer program, GVPJ, provides a platform for individuals to engage with the community and contribute to positive change.
Roice-Hurst Humane Society

Volunteering at the Roice-Hurst Humane Society (RHHS)is a great way to give back to the community while also making a positive impact on the lives of animals in need. By donating your time and skills, you can help cate for and socialize with cats, dogs, and other animals in the shelter, assist with events, and promote animal welfare in the community. With a mission to promote and support the compassionate treatment of animals, the RHHS offers a rewarding and experience for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. “Volunteering for the RHHS has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life,” said local resident and animal lover Troy Kramer. “Helping care for these animals and finding them loving homes brings so much joy to both the animals and the community. It’s truly a rewarding way to give back.” The RHHS, located in Grand Junction, relies heavily on the support of volunteers like Kramer to provide and care for the animals in the shelter.
