Top Family-Friendly Destinations to Visit in Grand Junction

1- Canyon View Park

Canyon View Park is composed of 110 acres of land and resides within Grand Junction Colorado. This popular destination offers a large variety of outdoor recreational activities and amenities for all ages. 

For children, this park has a huge playground with handicap accessible equipment. This playground is often populated by children of all ages. The park has a skateboard area along with tennis courts, volleyball courts, baseball fields and multipurpose open space.  

“My children adore this park,” Kyler Adams said. “Every time we go to play, my kids make friends very quickly and play nonstop for hours.”   

This park has multiple sheltered areas which can be rented for outdoor birthday parties and events. Many of the sporting fields are often used for youth sports games and tournaments. The larger majority of the sporting fields have lights which can be turned on and used for activities after sunset. 

“My oldest son has soccer games at the park,” Adams said. “My younger daughter absolutely loves going to the soccer games because she gets to play at the playground while her brother comptes.”

The park also offers a variety of other amenities, including several  picnic areas, a dog park, a skate park, and hiking and biking trails. The park is a great destination for families, as there are plenty of activities for kids to enjoy.

“There are several parks, clubs, even a library for kids to enjoy,” Andrew Wetzel said. “I also feel it’s pretty safe compared to other parts of the city.” 

2- Western Colorado Botanical Gardens

The Western Slope Botanical Gardens was founded in 1944 and covers a 15-acre site along the Colorado River. Within the property lines there are several different sections of gardens. Some of these sections include a cactus garden, western heritage garden, rose garden, herb garden, grass garden, Japanese garden and an international garden. 

The property also has a wetland demonstration area and a small amphitheater which is commonly used for educational programs. Throughout the year, The Western Slope Botanical Gardens offers workshops, lectures and guided tours to attendees. 

This location is popularly known for its Butterfly Pavilion. This pavilion is home to numerous species of butterflies which guests can observe and interact with. 

3- Lincoln Park – Moyer pool 

Moyer Pool is open seasonally, typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The pool features several different areas for swimming, including a large lap pool, a diving board, a kiddie pool, and a splash pad. There is also a concession stand and plenty of seating and shade for visitors to enjoy.

The pool has a daily admission cost. Although, guests can purchase a season pass or a summer punch card for a predetermined rate. The pool is fully staffed by lifeguards during all hours of operation. 

The pool also offers swimming lessons to children within various age groups. These lessons require pre-registration and payment. 

Moyer Pool is a popular destination for families and anyone looking to cool off and have fun during the hot summer months in Grand Junction.
