Since opening its doors in October 2020, The Modern Nomad has become a go-to destination for locals and tourists alike.

Located in the heart of downtown Grand Junction, The Modern Nomad is a unique tourist shop and collectibles store that offers a wide range of Colorado-inspired souvenirs as well as local goods.

Kelley Lesjak is the main manager of The Modern Nomad. She is also a member of the leadership committee for downtown Grand Junction and has developed strong relationships with other business owners in the area.

Lesjak explained that the owners of The Modern Nomad, Eric and Julia, saw an opportunity to create a souvenir shop and decided to take the risk in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unlike other shops in the area, The Modern Nomad is dedicated to Grand Junction and Colorado-themed products. Customers can expect to find unique items such as apparel, stickers, socks, hats, home decor, books, body products, pet treats and more. The store is open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10-5 and 11-3 on Sundays, with extended hours during the Farmers Market starting in July.

Lesjak explained that one of the things that sets The Modern Nomad apart from its competition is its commitment to the community. Downtown Grand Junction does not allow franchises or corporate businesses, so visitors can be assured that they are supporting locally owned and operated businesses.

Lesjak shared that people shop at The Modern Nomad for the customer service experience, which is something that every business downtown strives to provide.

While The Modern Nomad does not host in-store events, the store follows downtown events closely. One such event is Ride and Vibes, a big bike race with outdoor music, a beer garden and vendors.

Leskak shared that working downtown at The Modern Nomad gave her an opportunity to meet different people.

“My favorite part is meeting people from all over the world,” Lesjak said. “We’ve had people from Germany, Japan, France, I think we’ve even had Australia.”

Emma Edwards, an associate at The Modern Nomad, explained that her favorite part of working downtown is the customers.

“I love working down here because it’s so peaceful and calm. Even when we’re busy it’s not bad because everyone is so nice down here,” Edwards said.

The shop is located at 711 Main St in Grand Junction.

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind souvenir or gift, or just want to support a locally owned and operated business, Lesjak encourages you to stop by The Modern Nomad on your next trip to downtown Grand Junction.
