Mesa County Public Health(MCPH), stated that the California and the United Kingdom coronavirus variant is spreading in Mesa County. The department thinks the possible link is connected between more-transmissible strains and higher case numbers in children who are younger ten.
Recently, that age group accounted for about 3.9 percent of documented COVID-19 cases in the county. The number has risen to around 9 percent. MCPH mentioned that the vaccines help with protecting against these variants.

Jeff Kuhr, Ph.D., Executive Director of MCPH, described that the COVID-19 vaccine can with the variants of the virus that are emerging.
“Now we’ve heard that there will be boosters for both Moderna and Pfizer at some point, and those will be their opportunity to re-adjust, similar to what we do with the flu vaccine each year,” he said.
Kuhr also stated that adults’ vaccinations are in important to put a stop to preventing the spread of this virus to children, who aren’t eligible for vaccination at the moment.

“37% of Mesa County’s eligible population is fully vaccinated, and that he would happy to see that number get higher,” he said.
