Grand Junction City Council went into a special session on March 22nd in 2021. Councilmembers Chuck McDaniel, Phyllis Norris, Phillip Pe’a, Anna Stout (participated remotely), Rick Taggart, Council President Duke Wortmann (participated remotely) and Council President Pro Tem Kraig Andrews attended the meeting. City Managers Greg Caton, City Attorney John Shaver, City Clerk Wanda Winkelmann and Deputy City Clerk Janet Harrell were also present.

City Council meeting staff requested approval for nine fireworks shows at Suplizio Field.
City Council expressed concerns for the surrounding neighborhood and asked that laser shows be considered in lieu of fireworks,” says Council President Pro Tem Kraig Andrews.
Shows featured on Saturday have bigger turnouts which in turn costs more. To help with the waste fireworks cause, the option of laser shows were given. Laser shows would lessen noise and would help decrease the negative impacts to surrounding neighborhoods. It was later decided that laser shows were not financially or logistically feasible. Laser shows are typically shown on mountain sides which aren’t available in the Grand Junction area.
In order to accommodate the surrounding neighbors the Rockies they “would reduce their shows from six to five, start Friday night games earlier in order to start shows earlier, have shorter shows, end all shows by 10:30 p.m.,use smaller shells and continue to provide neighborhood notifications,” says Grand Junction Rockies President Mick Ritter.
