With the 2020 Census results in, Colorado has gained an 8th Congressional Seat for the year 2022. Why might this be important to know? A growth in population within Colorado is partly to thank for the 2020 Census results, which shows a 14.8 % increase in population compared to the year 2010. Among all 50 states, Colorado was ranked 6th in percent change, showing just how much population growth has an impact on Colorado and its representation from each House of Representatives. For Colorado, there are 722,771 people per representative, making this gain crucial to the 5,733,714 residents here in Colorado.
“It’s official! Census data is in and Colorado’s clout will grow in our nation’s capital. Colorado will get to elect 8 members of Congress next year, one more than now. Another Coloradan will soon be on the way to help make the United States of America an even better country!” Tweeted Gov. Polis in celebration of this gain.
Colorado will have a greater chance of seeing the laws changed that they want, to benefit the nation and the great state of Colorado, but most importantly the people within it.
