“It has been a great team and it has been a pleasure working with you all.” Greg Caton City Manager said.

These city council members will not go out being forgotten. Each councilmember will receive their own bench in honor of their hard work on the council. These benches will be located at Las Colonias Park. Each bench will have a specific plaque in regards to the council member. The plaques will read:

  • Kraig Andrews – City council member from 2019-2021
  • Phyllis Norris – Mayor from 2014-2017 and City council member from 2013-2021
  • C.E. Duke Wortmann – Mayor from 2020-2021 and City Council member from 2017-2021

Mayor Wortmann got emotional when saying his goodbye to his fellow members. “I am a big believer in we, you won’t hear me say I very often.” Mayor Wortmann said. “They [the city council members] give everything and more and I will defend them with every breath.” Mayor Wortmann said with a lump in his throat. “I almost got through it.” [Referring to getting emotional].

Throughout Wortmann’s time as mayor, he has attributed many positive aspects to the city of Grand Junction. Many of these aspects refer to the many plans involving infrastructure and safety development.

Time and time again Mayor Wortmann has shown his love for the community of Grand Junction. His time on the council has not gone unnoticed and the city of Grand Junction is lucky to have had him on the board.
