Mesa County Valley School District 51 (D51) is glad to announce that all schools in the area will provide summer learning this year!

For Summer 2021 D51 will offer “Summer Extension.” By using federal ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) Funds were specifically set aside to help students catch up if they are in need of more time to work on certain subjects.Though D51 schools have been in session all year, several students are still catching up on what was missed during last year’s fourth quarter. Middle and elementary schools will primarily focus on literacy and math, while highschool will mainly focus on credit recovery.

“Summer Extension will be provided Monday through Thursday June 2-29. During this time students will be able to catch the bus at stops that are placed throughout the valley. Students will receive a to-go lunch after their four hours of morning programming, as well as a pre-packaged breakfast for the next morning. Mental health support will also be available at select schools,” says Dr. Diana Sirko, Superintendent of Schools.

D51 intends to offer Summer Extension programming to up to 3,000 students. If interested in the program please contact your school’s principal or contact a member of the D51 Summer Extension Team before May 7th. If your child is attending a charter or private school, please check with their administration to see what they will be offering.
