Creating a Better City- One City Council Meeting at a Time

AJA MONIQUE SALINAS- THE SPOTLIGHT EDITOR

City council members and citizens joined together on a zoom call held on March 17, 2021 where important proclamations, public hearings, and resolutions were discussed. Plans for the future included declaring March 31, 2021 as Cesar Chavez Day here in Grand Junction, and making April 2021 Water Conservation Month.

The importance of Cezar Chavez to Grand Junction was his demonstration of humanity, equality, dignity, and courage in the face of adversity and opposition. He set an example to the Grand Valley on how to treat everyone no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation, and any other diversity that some use as a means for injustice. This proclamation would encourage the Grand Valley to continue on the efforts of creating a more just immigration system and successful community.

With Grand Junction being located in a drier climate, the preservation of water is crucial for maintaining the health of the city. For the month of April, the City of Grand Junction encourages the community to cut back on water use with the benefits being toward reducing the impact on the environment and also the impact on people’s water bills.
