The founder and original owner, Ivy Parnasius, started Pollux in July of 2000. In the beginning Pollux Clothing, started off as a small 100 square foot space in the back of vintage clothing store behind the Avalon Theatre. And ever since than they have grown every year and have moved twice into bigger locations and then finally found their current location on 321 Main Street in 2007.
Pollux has even expanded their store past Mesa County into Montrose’s Main street in 2009. In the summer of 2015, Pollux established a fully operating online store for people who may not in the Grand Valley. Parnasius sold Pollux within the last several years, and moved to another state.
Jessica Lopez, the current owner, bought the clothing boutique five years ago. When Lopez bought Pollux, she decided to close down the Montrose location and the online store to focus mainly on the Grand Junction location. In the recent months, the store has received a facelift inside. They have repainted the walls and gave it new life.
Walking into Pollux, you get a sense of excitement. Watching the Pollux worker’s put up new inventory for the upcoming spring and summer season. All their new clothes are folded nicely and hung up for people to browse and buy.
Pollux is always looking at the new fashion trends that are popular. They typically try and follow trends that are happening.
“We try and follow the trends we do our shopping in the fashion district in Los Angeles, so whatever is trending out there we tend to follow it,” said Tricia Ramsey a current sale associate for Pollux.
When talking about trends that she sees, a lot of people buying are bodycon dresses and babydoll dresses. She has seen a lot of people gravitate towards them and she believes this clothing piece is a huge staple for people’s wardrobe.
“The baby doll dress is the biggest trend for spring time,” Ramsey said.
Not only are babydoll dresses popular within the trends but so are the bodycon dresses. People are gravitating towards them even though there a little tighter and are more known for skinnier small women.
“People at first stray away from them initially because there super forming fitting and only petite skinny girls usually wear them,” Ramsey said.
But when Pollux does get their shipments in for bodycon dresses they’re a big hit. And they can’t restock their shelves fast enough because of the high demand.
“It’s a good staple piece because you can dress them up or dress them down,” Ramsey said.
When looking at their products to buy for the store they try and find sizes and pieces that can fit all different people and can be worn by all as well. They want all different ages of women to feel happy when shopping at their store. Whether you’re a teenager or a 35-year-old women.
“Pollux tries to be inclusive here”, said Ramsey.
