what the community is watching

Locals of Grand Junction, Colo., have gone into quarantine amidst the Coronavirus pandemic. In these trying times of social distancing, many may be asking, “What do I do if I am in quarantine or stuck at home?” The answer? A lot! Individuals can still go outside, read books, start a hobby they have always wanted to do, try something new, get cooking and, of course, binge their favorite streaming services.

Scott Stassen, a local Grand Junction resident, is using Netflix to catch up on some binge- worthy series such as The Witcher and Knightfall. “I love the sci-fi genre and alternative history shows. They are not only interesting, but keep you guessing to what could have happened in a different timeline.” As well, Stassen said that he enjoys watching Man In The High Castle on Amazon when he is feeling like changing up his nightly routine of Netflix watching.

Another local of Grand Junction and a Senior CMU student who is also watching to his heart’s content is Noah Stahlecker.

“I would recommend checking out the Anime section on Netflix,” he said. “I usually don’t watch it, but there are some interesting looking shows.” With his recommendation of the Anime section on Netflix, Stahlecker also recommends Code 8 and Altered Carbon.

To continue on the Netflix train, another Grand Junction local and Junior CMU student, Brett Mixon, said his favorite shows to watch on Netflix are comedies.

Trailer Park Boys is one of the funniest shows I have seen on Netflix, though it may not be appropriate for everyone,” Mixen said. “Another great choice, always, is The Office. I have watched the series at least 5 times through and still love it.”

With his recommendations for comedies on Netflix, Mixen is also an avid hunter and loves watching hunting documentaries on YouTube. So, if you are in need of switching up the routine and are curious on how hunters get to their spots, tips, tricks and recommendations, check that out on YouTube.

Skyler Rohlman is another Grand Junction local who is getting outside a lot during these times and even practicing his skills with his new motorcycle. When he is not getting fresh air, he is inside watching music documentaries on a lesser-known streaming service called Stingray. “Music is a great passion of mine and these music documentaries are so cool,” Rohlman said. “They discuss how artists got started making music and the evolution of their style and brand.”

So, there is something for everyone to watch while stuck inside during the valley’s pandemic.
