The weather is warming up, the days lasting longer and the need of going outside is a sign summer is on its way! There’s so much I want to do but then I think about the Grand Junction heat and boy does this valley get hot. One thing you should know if you haven’t been to the valley before is that this place gets hot and I mean hot. In the summer you should expect if the weather hits the 80’s, we’re lucky.
Summertime is always the best time for basically anything, I mean unless you only like to ski or snowboard, I suggest you just scroll on away.
There’s quite a few things you can do in the Grand Valley in summer. The first thing that comes to mind is the Farmers Market on Main Street that opens up in the beginning of July. The Farmers Market is a festival where the streets are blocked up and there’s stands on every corner. There are stands of fresh local produce, tasty palisade peaches, pizza, kettle corn and anything else that reminds you of summer, the Farmers Market has a stand for that. They also have local bands that perform there where you can relax and listen to the music. The Farmers Market is perfect for a nice, warm day outside with your friends and family.
When thinking of summer I am sure you think of laying out tanning by the pool because I know I definitely do. The Lincoln Park pool, right next to Stocker Stadium, is great for a fun day in the sun. The Lincoln Park pool features a waterslide, two diving boards and a Splash Pad water playground for the children. If you are the person who only goes to the pool to tan the pool has a large grass area and also has pool deck furniture. And if you want a bite to eat, they have a concession area too.
Another place I like to go to for a nice swim or a tan is Highline Lake. Highline is in Loma about a twenty minute drive from Grand Junction. This is my favorite place to go to when my friends and I want to spend the day outside grilling hamburgers, laying out or paddle boarding in the water. When asking my friends what they think of when I say summer in Grand Junction, they are always quick to say Highline Lake.
The heat of the valley can get to you but don’t let it! These were a few of my favorite things to do in the summer here in Grand Junction.
